The Crown x 2 (Crowned Eagle and Kruger Lion)
21 cm x 29 cm
Acrylic monoprint and painting on Fabriano Ecological paper
The male lion represents the raw wildness of the African continent, the King. Residing in the Kruger Park, a sacred space, squeezed on all four sides by an increasing human population, with the resulting increase in poaching and snares. The Crowned Eagle is the apex predator in the skies above our once peaceful village in KwaZulu Natal. A village now facing rapid development, with the destruction of its forests to make way for townhouse complexes.
Helen Fleetwood was raised in South Africa, with a love for the outdoors and wildlife. She is a self-taught artist who has painted from an early age. After spending many years in the corporate world, she now lives in KwaZulu-Natal, creating artworks from her experiences in the bush.
