I have always admired the beauty and majesty of the bird of prey, a joy to watch and also to draw. When searching for a subject for the contest, I happened across the stunning Philippine Eagle and was sad to learn of their critically endangered status, due mainly to deforestation. I decided that I wanted to highlight the plight of this beautiful creature as one of the lesser known of the endangered species.
A Bristol based portrait artist, working predominantly in black and white, Rachael loves to try and capture the character of her subject, be it animal or human, through the medium of pencil. Rachael graduated from Bath Spa University with a BA(hons) in Contemporary Art and Professional Studies in 2019.
